302 4bbl... which one?
Ok so I just got a 66 mustang with a 302 engine. Now im in need of some serious performance. Im looking fora 4bbl carb (edelbrock or holey) and an intake manifold.
I've tried looking up 4bbl carbs for the 302 but dont know which one fits? is it a direct fit?
Thanks!

I know I havent given you enough info, but I dont know anything about it yet
I just got the car and am new to the classic mustangs scene. How do I know what my engine is (2v or not) ? and how do I know which carb fits?
Sorry about the newbie questions, but I need to start somewhere

The carb that fits will be determined by the intake manifold. Square bore is Holley and spread bore is Quadrajet.
302 intakes are generally interchangeable. I'll agree with Soaring on the Weiand Stealth, but prefer Holley for the aftermarket support and tuning options. Edelbrock carbs are good starters that won't get you over your head and have some tuning options. The Motorcraft is in the "install and pretty muchforget" category.
If you truly need serious performance, however, you'll be do nothing short of a complete engine build. An intake/exhaust would be a good start, but won't be really 'serious' without a cam, rotating assembly, and heads.

we'll assume you have a 2bbl intake and carb now, which means your engine is stock cause thats the first thing 98% of people do if they are going to hop it up. look into a weiand action plus intake (the new one, not the old one - there are two and one is redesigned for more power). for a carb you prolly looking at a holley 570 street avenger.
and there you have it [8D]

well i mean what is your set-up, if you want REAL power and you got some money (or can make some quick like) then you could do a eagal "ESP" 4130 forged crank and "ESP" 4130 h-beam rods, with mahle 8.5 cr pistons with the block .30-.60 over . get your local machine shop to do some head work (2.50 intake and 2.00 exhaust s/s valves and about 150cc chambers) an iskey solid race cam with about a 6.80/6.90 @3.00/2.80, pete jackson gears, morose electric water/fuel pumps and a massive screw type blower (8-71 for me please) now your making about 1200 hp (on acohol or methanol of course). see why we need to know what you have and what your gonna doo with it . o and that's with two 850 dominators too
Just buy a Performer RPM with a 600 vacum Holley and you will have a set-up that will work on any engine combo you will have now or in the forseeable furture. The 600 vacum carb will only give your engine what it requires based on the vacum signal and spring set in the diaphram. Plus it will allow you to build up to a 400 hp engine without having to buy another carb/manifold later. And think about this when you look at manifold rpm ranges...just HOW much time do you spend BELOW 1500 rpm? (The rpm works best from 1500-6500.)
Check out the Demon's on Jeg's,,, contrary to popular belief, they can be reasonably priced, less that Holley in many cases..
525 or 625 CFM would be suitable, depending on your engine setup....
