Good to know, thanks guys....

the next question....

Is it worth fixing or should I replace? What's a good "basic" carb. Is it worth going 4bbl without changing anything else in the engine? Manual Choke or electric.....
Most likely you have the best basic carb for that engine. My poker money says you have an Autolite 2100, and that is the best carburetor ever invented. How about posting a picture of your carb? We will be able to tell what you have in a New York minute.

It is the accelerator pump diaphram and you can find one in the "HELP" section at any local part dealer for around $5. The 4 screws come off and the old (probably cracked) diaphram comes out. Be sure not to loose the spring thats behind it. Replace it with the new diaphram and it should be good to go.

My engine has run "rough" and is dificult to start. Could this be the issue. I've put new plugs and wires already, and have a distributor and roter to put in as well.

Of course it runs rough and is hard to start. Your carb needs a new diaphragm. Geterdun, then get back after you have replaced that part and tell us if that fixed the problem. If it doesn't, then you can blame it on expensivetoy.

Ok, so I look for the carb number (guy at parts store said I needed it) and couldn't find it on the carb. Without that they can't get the part. Also, they only sell it with carb rebuild kit, but... seeing as one piece is shot I may as well replace them all...

anyways... here's a picture, can anyone identify the carb number. If worse comes to worse I can always take the carb up to the parts store in a few weeks when the "carb guy" is back from holidays and the guy I talked to today said he would be able to identify it....

I have circled in red where the gas is leaking from.

It's an Autolite 2100. On the left frontmounting tab there should be the Ford ID code in the format of number - letter - letter. You will need to remove the dashpot to see the number. As Glen said, in many auto parts stores, there is a section called 'Help' with all kinds of parts including the diaphram for an accelerator pump. Also, get a spray can of Berryman B12 carburetor cleaner and do some preventative maintenance.

That's the problem with most the idiots at the parts stores these days...

They should be able to get the kit from a simple Autolite 2100. Anyway, looky here....

Here's something else you need on that poor engine, too.

Yeah, a little TLC with sandpaper, POR 15 and probably some degreaser wouldn't hurt, but this thread is not about engine bay cleaning. Stick with the subject.

In relation to the rest of the carb, the pump cover looks newer of cleaner than the rest of the carb. This maybe a hint it has been worked onlately.Try to tighten the screws first and seeif that willstopthe leak first. Sometimes the gasket shrinks allowing fuel to squirt out. I would try to find a "Holly" accelerator pump if it will fit. Seems these are of a better quality and have a thicker gasket than the ones they offer in thebox rebuild kits.
