Default Carb Question

When I depress the gas pedel all the way (replicated by manually pushing the lever on the carb) a small amount of fule spills(squirts) from the front of the carb. Is this normal (I don't think it is).

Probably a stupid question but I don't know, can a carb be repaired or should I just get a new one?

Accelerator pump diaphram is shot but without the engine and carburetor types, it's a little difficult to say.

Engine is a 289
Carb is a Holly 2bbl but can't find model number on it (I only bought it 6 weeks ago).

I can see that where the gas is leaking from there is a plate with 4 screws. The lever enters that plate and there aprear to be a black rubber piece sandwiched between the carb body and the plate.

66GTKFB nailed it,,,,, and you confirmed it, you should be able to get a new accelerator pump (or diaphram?) for your carb, I don't know where, but someone here will....

I am assuming that you bought the carb used right?

Carb was on the car when I bought it. There is a decal on the carb that say's "remanufactured by holly", which is how I knew it was a Holly.

Not necessarly. It may be an Autolite. Holley was just a facility that did the work. One of my distributors was rebuilt by a GM owned company.

+1000,,,, "remanufactured by" means nothing as it relates to original manufacturer....

I will give 5 to 1 odds that it is an Autolite....

Good to know, thanks guys....

the next question....

Is it worth fixing or should I replace? What's a good "basic" carb. Is it worth going 4bbl without changing anything else in the engine? Manual Choke or electric.....

Depends what you want from your car. It will be both cheap and simple to repair your existing carb, (prob about $20 for parts, and you can fix easy) going 4 bbl will cost lots more, and be a lot more work. And yes you can go 4 bblwith just a carb and manifold change, no other changes needed, and I like elec chokes....
