Oil Shaft direction? Primer?
I thought I would ask the experts. I want to make sure which direction the oil pump shaft rotates before I attempt to prime my new engine. As you are looking down the distributor hole does it rotate clock wise?
You want to spin it in the same direction as the distributor turns.Assuming that this is for a 260/289/302, counter-clockwise looking down.
Picture. (Clicking on the 'Engine Specs' button provides navigation to other engines.)
NOTE: especially if you're using a priming tool that has a reduced diameter shank to fit in your drill's chuck, file or grind three flats on the shank so that it will be less likely to slip when the pump does prime or if you run the drill rpm up a bit too high. The problem is that if the tool does slip in the chuck, little bits of metal are ground off the tool and drop right down the distributor hole (not good).
