65 - 302 Engine ruff on first starting
I don't know James, sounds like a loose lifter to me. I would describe a rod bearing problem as being a much deaper sound than that, and the word "Clack" comes to mind. What I am hearing is a loose lifter tick. There is only one way to find out and is to take the valve covers off and check the lifter clearances.

I hope you are right about that for mstg007's sake!
In any case I would want to eliminate a valvetrain issue before taking that engine apart,,, Yep I would pull the covers also.....
Guys, I like that thought... When I replaced the lifters, I torqued the rocker arm all the way down as tight as it would go. How else can I check the clearnace or to see if its a rod?
You did WHAT??? Follow this guide and re-adjust all your lifters.

I did have the knock before, that is why I replaced all the lifters with new ones.
I will try to do what the guide says... I will let you know results.
Thanks again

If the cam had gotten chewed up and put a hole in the bottom of the lifter which would allow it to bleed down then when u replaced the lifters the cam could be chewing one up again.I had that problem on a 69 chevelle. But if it was a lifter ud hear it all throught the rpm range
