Default Engine Stroking Wonders.......=] & Mileage?

What do you think is the best choice of 351 w engine stroking ?

383?? i might be confused

408

or

428

i heard stroking engines is a good way to turn your Engine into a "Grenade"

Plus how much HP & TQ are you looking at with a 351w stroked to a 408w?

dont be confused by the chevy displacement. it's the theoretically ideal stroke length over the 408 and 428. the 428 is stretching it but theres plenty of guys on here with 408 and they'll be able to give you insight on durabiliity and driveability. the grenade thing is disproved because the tailored packages that exist now and not just a bunch of lumped together parts. the oil control issue has been sorted out too. if you've got the coin, go for it

oh yeah, get ready for the lecture on having the rest of your car up for the task too

Hoping for very close to 500,,, HP & TQ at flywheel..... time will tell.....

Get a block girdle,,,,, and if you use H-beam rods with a 408,, no block clearancing isneeded.......

We got our all forgedbalanced rotating assembly for 1250, addl 200 for harmonic balancer and flywheel.

The "kit" came withCrank, H-beam rods, KB forged pistons, rings, main bearings, and rod bearings.

A cast 408 kit w/ I beams can be had for quit a bit less, if you shop, well under 1K.

Started with a 1970 351 from an LTD, very little of it left, but 69 & 70 blocks are suposed to be good.

IMO, it is no harder to build a stroker than a standard engine. I said earlier that with H beams you don't need to clearance the block, well we clearanced before discovering this, even that was easy... the seller of the kit will supply a tool to makeclearancing easy. Everything was new, so the machine work consisted of having the block bored and decked,, thats all.

This was my first stroker build,,, as well as my first Ford build, so I took my time going together, but I cant say it was hard.

The "hardest" part of the build was to carefully select part, checking for compatability and checking again... oh yea,,, and also making sure that the parts that I bought would have the compression ratio that I wanted. (need to consider heads and pistons.)

Our assembly complications consisted of me not being able to use the stock oil pan, and the need to clearance the oil pump housing a little, both of these were the result of the block girdle, not the actual strokage.... the block girdle and stud kit was about $200,,, probably a good investment though...

That'll depend on how you drive it, but now matter how you cut it more cubes=less milage, unless you have a VERY well thought out build with an exceptional EFI setup, ala GM's LS7 in the Vette, 505hp and 26mpg highway from a 427.

None of the kits I found included heads...

and gas mileage will depend on a lot of factors, with the entire setup (very warm cam) and 4.11 gearswe are running the gas milage will suck....

but I don't think it needs to suck, depending on what you want from your engine... I think a 408 would make a great "torque monster" that could get respectable fuel milage.
