Default Newbie with a basic question.

Hello all, new to this forum and excited about my first Mustang purchase! Anyhoo, tried to buy a carjack at Kragens to put in my trunk and one of the workers suggested because I had a heavier classic car that I should find out the weight before I purchase anything. Can anyone tell me what 66' Mustangs with a straight 6 engine typically weigh? ..or what kind of jack I should buy?....

Welcome to the forums! I'll be the first to tell you we're gonna need pics of your ride

Anyhow to answer your question, a standard size hyd. floor jack will be more than enough for jacking up your car - I don't know the weight offhand but those jacks will pick up cars ALOT heavier than a classic mustang.

Your car is right at 3K Pounds minus some, so a 2 k pound jack from wally world will suffice to jack up one point of the four points needed to get her in the air to change out tires. If you have further needs for added pounds to jack up then get back to us.

Welcome to the forums, and congratulations on getting your mustang, as for a jack, what Shane said holds true, most any standard hydraulic floor jack is more than enough.

Also the guy at Kragen doesn't know what he's talking about, classic mustangs are lighter than most new cars. From what I can find the base weight of your car should be around 2600 lbs, which is quite light in comparison to modern day mustangs which weigh upwards of 3300 pounds off the lot.

Use one of those on a Mustang and you'll rip the bumper off.
