So,I took the dimensions of the mufflers and they are as follows 13" x 8" x 4" with 2" pipes. I guess they are Flowmaster 40's so I'm not too sure I can get much more improvementwithout switching diameter. Will the aero chamber or super 44's sound much better?

Excuse my ignorance, but are glasspacks used in addition to the mufflers? What do they exactly do?

Thanks again!

My Aero Chmabers with 2.5" pipesare reasonably mellow at idle, but still grumble, and are pretty agressive when you step on it, and scream when you open 'em up all the way. But I'm also pushingover 350hp, more exhuast flow=more exhuast noise. One thing to consider is you don't want something that's too loud all the time, or you paint a big target on your back for the police. They may not have a problem with something that sounds like American muscle, but they do with something that sounds like a race car all the time.

Glasspacks are a type of flow-thru muffler. They are called that because they are insulated with fiber glass. They typically are LOUD! They are effective at lowering back pressure, but not good at reducing sound. Several manufacturers make them. Thrush, Cherry Bomb, and Flowtech's Purple Hornies are just a few. The longer the muffler, the quieter they are. 12" mufflers are the loudest and 26"-30" are typically quieter.

Yeah, you have flow 40's and should be happy with that sound. We had fiberglas lined mufflers way back in the 50's and a lot of guys ran them, so they are certainly not a new invention. If you dump the exhaust right after the 40's with a short pipe and a short down flow extension you will increase the loudness of your exhaust system.

I'm suprised that my car is still relatively mellow at idle, with dumps in front of the axle. That does give it a deeper/louder sound though, as the sound waves resonate under the car, like the sound inside aguitar from the strings(for those of you who have ever seen a guitar made from wood, cuz I know someone is gonna say something about electric guitars)

Electric guitars are made of wood. Solid wood. I have a Martin acoustic that I absolutely love. It's like the Stradivarius and Amati of the violin world when it comes to talking about acoustic guitars. OK, back on topic talking about mufflers. I have Ravin 33 series that sound very similar to the Flow 40's at about half the cost. Unfortunately, they are no longer being manufactured as far as I know.

It's really hard to beat the sound of a good acoustic guitar

A Strad beats a 'good acoustic guitar' every time. Of course, the musician makes the difference apparent, as in Thrush mufflers (I had a set on my 69 Fastback).
(I had to get back on topic somehow.)
