Default Need more grumble....

Well,
I have pretty much expended my entire budget working on the interior of my car this year, and did not leave much money for the exhaust. I currently have an A code 289 with tri-Y headers and the exhaust that came with my car. It appears to be quite new but only a 1 7/8" diameter. I don't want to go through the process of replacing the entire exhaust system, and was wondering if I could swap out the mufflers for something more aggressive sounding. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

It looks like you already have Flowmasters. It's not going to get much lowder than that unless you go woth glass packs. I personaly like the sound of Flowmasters.

+1 on the Flowmasters. The only question is what kind of Flowmaster are those. The 40s are pretty much the loudest Flowmaster makes. I have 50s on my Bronco and they look very similar, but are more mild sounding. That could be what you have if the PO did not like a LOUD car. I personally like both Flowmasters and glasspacks. The only thing is after growing up in Texas, I associate glasspacks with big ol' trucks not with musclecars.

That was my point. From what I could tell, they look identical from the outside but the 50s were about half as loud. There are also a number of other models of Flowmasters that are quieter than 40s, but the 50s are the only ones I have experience with.

If the case is 4 inches tall it's a 40 series. If it's 5 inches tall it's a 50 series......thats all I know.[/align]

You could go with the new Flowmaster Super 44's. I was going to put some on mine but the guys at the exhaust shop said that they'd be too loud. I have 2" exhaust so I don't know how loud they'd be on yours. Oh yeah, I'm running glass packs on mine right now and it sounds awesome!

You could always swap in a set of Hooker Aero Chambers, that's what I have, no really loud until you open it up, and it doesn't sound dainty either. SLP Loudmouths are somewhat popular among a lot of the newer Mustang guys, and everyone who uses them likes the, apperantly they're pretty loud and agressive sounding. But my view is don't sound fast unless you are fast. A loud agressive sounding car that runs a 15 second 1/4 mi is kinda lame I think, but that's just me

What length glasspacks are you running? Do they pop like mine on my 96 F250 with no cats did?

I'm not sure what length but they don't pop too bad, they sound pretty nice.
