Default whats this hole for?

Starting to weld emblem holes over and don't remember what this hole is for. Its about a half inch wide and there is one on the other fender as well. The fender is off a 65 mustang.

I believe it is used to mount part of the front bumper. Don't quote me though.

Look's like the same hole on my 68. It's a bracket hole for the outer edge of the bumper. Without it, it could rub on the fender after you paint the car.

it is in fact a mounting hole for the bracket that holds the outer portion of the bumper.

Ditto the other responses.

I found a wealth of information in the Mustang factory assembly manuals. You can't go wrong with a purchase of any of them:

Body Assembly
Electrical Assembly
Weld and Sealant Assembly
Interior Assembly
etc.

These are invaluable especially when combined with the Ford Shop Manuals.

Tony, back up and take a wider angle picture of the car where that hole is. It doesn't look familiar. Secondly, is it a vert or a coupe or fastback?

That hole corresponds to the bumper bracket...where the front bumper mounts.

Thanks guys it didn't look familliar to me. I dont think it was hooked up when I dissasembled. I looked in my manual thinking it was for some kind of lighting and glanced at my bumper looking for lights. Guess I can weld it over as well since I am putting on a kit to remove the front bumper.
