rear leaf spring opinions
I am fixing to replace my rear suspension. Right now I have the leaf springs on shackles that apparently have raised the rear end. I like the look so I was looking at the leaf sprink kit from laurel mtn. mustangs that raise the rear 1.5" and remove the shackles that are on the car now. Do you guys think the shackles I have on now give the rear a 1.5" lift? Will this 1.5" lift kit get me what I want?
I'm not sure if its an "optical illusion", but it looks like your leaf springs could be sagging quite a bit. This may be due to the exposed leafs (from the lift) that I'm not used to.
If I was a guessing man, I'd say your lift is probably raising it - while at the same time your leafs are sagging. Probably resulting in the same height as if you were replace them with "stock" leafs(without the lift kit).

interesting......I was just kind of looking at the clearance from the tire to the fender well...looks higher than stock. anyone know the height of the top of the fender well opening from the ground with the stock suspension? or about the height? I realize it will vary based on wheel and tire, but I just want to get a feel.
cool thanks....i am actually starting to wonder if these aren't the right leaf springs. I think the rear shackle has been moved back, which would actually lower the car, but it definately looks lifted. I am really at a loss on what to do. Buy stock springs, or go with the 1.5" lift.
Most guys prefer to lower the front and rear instead of raising them. The distance from the ground to the lip is 26" on mine with nearly new standard eye springs and new KYB shocks and 14" wheels with 195/65tires.So mine is about as stock as you are going to get.

I know most people lower them, but my wheels stick out becuase of the rear axle being too wide. I really haven't determined what I am going to do. I have to figure out where I stand in comparison to stock. I think my wheels are bigger than stock also. Gonna but out the tape when it stops raining.
What did you do, get a rear out from under a 67 and up? Those suckers are two inches longer. It would probably be about as cheap to get another rear that fits than to try to shorten that one by 2 inches.

I bought it with that axle in it. I wasn't going to shorten it, I was trying to figure out if I could just lift the rear with the leaf springs. Looks like I have 30.x" to the lip. My tires have 1.x" more of height, so 30-1-26 = 3". Looks like I have a 3" lift on the rear somehow.
