Didn't we just have a long thread about your tire clearance a couple of weeks ago? You've got tires with too little backspacing that are making them stick out.

I've never seen 1 1/2" lift springs. Most springs you buy are stock or lowering springs, and I would call Laurel Mountain and verify that these are supposed to raise the rear 1.5" and not lower it 1.5".

Lifting is done by using shackles or by using air shocks...neither of which is really desireable. Shackles make the rear end react squirrely in turns, and air shocks put all the weight on the rear of the car on a little sheet metal area over the wheels... this structure was never designed to carry the vehicle weight.

You need to call Flex-A-Form in Anderson, SC and tell them what you want to do and get a price on some fiberglass leaf springs. Mono-leaf and you loose about 40 lbs. of unsprung weight.

I know what you are saying about the backspacing. My mags have 3.5 from where the lug holes are and 4.5 from the space around the lug holes. Either way, I am not in a position to buy new wheels right now, but I can upgrade my rear suspension and I was trying to do that and buy wheels later. I like the look the car has now and would like to keep it. I was hoping a new suspension would with the lift on the rear would keep the tires from rubbing. At least make it tolerable until I could get new wheels.

Also, all the styled wheels I see for sale for a 65 Mustang have a 3.75" backspacing.....didn't you say it should be 4.5"?

On a 8" wide wheel you would need 4.5 or even 4.75 back sets. The 3.5 on SS wheels are based on a 5" or 6" wide wheel I imagine. Laurel Mountain does sell a 1.5 lift rear spring. I did not buy mine directly from them but a local shop bought them from the same people that they use (so I am told). I too like the look when the car is a little higher in the back than in the front. I was told this is the way they were originally designed. Of course I have been told many many things. The story I heard was that Ford kept hacking at the leafs on the prototype until the test driver could see adequately out the rear view mirror during the development stage. When he could see, they transferred that stance into production. The results apeear to be a little saggy in the butt if you ask me.
