Default finding a 351W

i have been searching for a 351Windsor for quite some time now and I am wondering... anyone know where i can get one cheap (say <5k)??? i have been to the local junk yards and there dont seem to be any cars older than '80! Yet im not willing to go into an EFI swap without any wiring knowledge at all. Im still a noob at this kinda stuff and i wanted a pretty simple I6 -V8 swap... yet i want the most bang for my buck.

Since you are a noob let's back up some. What year Mustang do you have, and why do you think you need a vintage 351 Windsor carbureted engine?

i got a 67 coupe. and my I6 is basically dead. gaskets have turned to sludge and there are leaks throughout the block. It also has over 100K miles but i cant tell exactly as the meter doesnt go that high. I really disliked the I6 and am looking for some more power. Are you saying i should go with something like a 302 or 289?

There are few places in San Jose that may have a289, 302 or 351Wengine, so I would suggest taking a run to the Modesto, Manteca or Fresno areas and check out the junk yards there.

you got that right... but I am actually looking for a new/barely used engine. There is a website that i have found www.proformanceunlimited.com that seems to be great, can anyone do better? :P ... I am already swapping out my stock drivetrain and have had, to my surprise, success @ the local junk yards with a 9".

you can go to ford racing or order from jegs and get a stock replacement 351 for like 2600. 250 hp/350 tq. theres also hopped ones too. t and l engines does stuff like that and mustanglover works for them so...

theres a lot of choices out there

Check out any of the mustang parts houses. They all have some sort of crate motor for 5K or less. New and warranty.

I saw one in the Mustang Unlimited,, I think,, it was a bone stock 351w long block for 1,700.. Brand spankin new, with a 3 yr warranty.. I will check the magazine again tomorrow,, its at work. But you could throw a bigger than stockintake and carb on that and feel pretty good about yourself.. as long as you upgrade your suspension..
