This is the product i used. the most noticable aspect was no damage or removal of the underlying paint, and still removed all the grease and garbage, and I could use rags to clean up, and it wasn't necessary to do any prep. Just spray it on an let it soak, and soft brush on the stubborn stuff.

I used Eazy Off on my water pump and it worked great,, came out smelling like a lemon, but hell it was clean.. I wasnt scared of getting it wet because it was a water pump, so i soaked it, then scrubbed it in a bucket of water,, dried it off really well and painted it.. It came out nice..

The most important advice posted so far is to cover the carb and or aircleaner/filter. Years back a friend washed his engine, which had an open air cleaner. When he went to started it, there was a bad knocking and vibration. Three mechanics later and a engine tear down one of his connecting rods was in the shape of an "S". It had sucked the water into a cyclinder, the water will not compress, so it bent the rod. Lowell

Easy Off, huh? I guess that means I can add a new task to the cleaning lady's duties.

I was thinking the same thing. About once a year I go buy a big jug of "Gunk" brand degreaser and take the old girl to the wand washing place. I let the engine cool down, then squirt that foul smelling crap everywhere and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then hit it with the wand on the soap cycle, then rinse it off. I take my carb off to clean it, so during this washing process I encase the carb and distrubutor with aluminum foil. I just wrap it around them and squeeze it on so water can't get under it. Works.

The great state of Texas is a Republican party dominated state. We send greenies packing.

greased lightning works great too. In the Marines to wash vehicles they made us use simple green and it would take weeks to clean a vehicle. Greased lightning had us inspection ready in a day. Just dont use it on annodizing because it will take the annodizing off.

When confronted by a 'greenie' here in California at a carwash or atany time, I use the philosophy of President Theodore Roosevelt - 'Speak softy and carry a big stick'. When that don't work, I yell at the bitch - loudly.
