What kind of paint?

Flat or gloss paint?

You guys prefer the engine bay/compartment to match the color of the car or go for just plain ol' black?

I think they look better black instead of matching. I used Rustolem Hammered, which is more like an extremly hard gray/black, but it is textured and hides imperfections better.

 

Depends on what you're going for. If the engine is the centerpiece, go flat black. If you want to make the entire bay something to show, go body color or something bright. I've used both flat black ('71) and hammered ('65).

Does it take heat well?

 

Rustolem Satin black.... has a real close shade to stock, but is very durable.

 

I like Krylon 1613 Semi-Flat black.
