Default 4 Link in a 65

Has anyone ever 4 linked thier pony?? I got a 65 with a horrible launch. I just burn out when ever I try to take off, which in turn is lost horsepower and slower times. I've been told that 4 linking it is the BEST way to go?? Am I right orare there other ways. I'm looking at about 1800-2000 for the kit then I would install it.

Before plopping out money on a 4 link let me ask you a couple questions:

What leafs are you running now?
What shocks are you running now?
What suspension setup do you have in the front?
What tires are you using?

The reason I ask these questions is because with my stroker cleveland when I am at the track running on 17 drag radials, I have no problem launching at 2000 RPM and I have a simple 5 leaf and KYB in the rear setup with a road course style suspension setup (lower car, tight springs, nothing at all setup for drag racing). Granted I am waiting for a 3 link setup to work with my watts link, but I have different reasons for wanting it. On the track I have never had a traction issue. On the street I know that starting my car from a stop with full throttle I will never have any traction so I don't bother unless I want to try and put on a show.

You have a Watts link Nick? No wonder you don't have a traction problem.

Here are some ideas. I think the IRS is intriguing. http://www.nzmustang.com/Newintoold/newintoold.htm

My straight line traction has neither improved nor degraded since the addition of a watts link. A Watts link positively centers the rear to help overcome the side to side deflection of a solid axle in cornering.

I run the EVM watts link and I am waiting for them to complete the 3 link so I can install it.

Well as far as my leafs....they are stock and old, rear shocks something VERY CHEAP...I mean $30 for the pair. I just needed something in there so I could drive it to put miles on the new motor. The front suspension I'm not quite sure, but its all brand new...I had a shop re-do it when they ran my brake lines. And my tires are again cheap. only 40 each. So now that I've listed this it kinda brought it to my attention that maybe I have some other issues first. But the only reason why I went cheap on these is b/c it had been sitting for 5 years and I was very eager to drive it. I have a 8.8 out of an explorer in it right now with 3.73's and posi. So what could I do to launch?? If I dont have to get a 4 link then I wont but I dont wanna spend a few hundred less if thats the true way to go.....I'd rather do it right

IMO I think you will find that:

New 5 leaf and shackes: $180-200
New Rear Shocks: $35 each
Under rider traction bars: $100

Will greatly improve your car's starting ability. The term launching is something I reserve for the track, so perhaps a second set of cheap track tires for when you go racing are in order. The hard compound in the street tires at the $40 price point is a killer for starting with authority.

And to give you perspective on my

5 leaf mid eye springs
basic shackels
under rider traction bars
275 40 17 drag radials

Good enough for a 1.8 60 foot. Is it the best it could be...no. But it sure is fun and I wasn't suffering from wheel hop or tire slip.

Also, I don't think you have included the motor (how much power are you really pushing) and the rest of the driveline...auto/stick ratios, etc.
