That's a strange breather cap, Soaring. I'd like to know what that stuff is.
It is asbestos,,,,, just kidding, I really don't know what it is....
Like I said, it looks just like a very coarse Brillo pad. I just swish it insolvent to clean it out every time I change the oil. I guess it came that way from the factory, because I haven't added it.
The DSO for my car was in Denver even though it was built in the San Jose factory, so I guess that explains why I don't have the hose going from the oil filler cap to the carb.

Glen,
It was called the 'closed emissions system' and Ford charged California buyers $5.30 for the special oil filler cap, hose and modified air cleaner. It's on the original window sticker for my 65 Fastback, which, by the way,is and was my favorite body style (63) before Shelby started using them as the base for the GT-350.

Yeah, I know about the closed emission thing that the Kali laws required. I just thought the factory determined the emission requirements, but now know that the DSO determines that.
