Default Wing window vent rivet tool

Does anybody know of a workaround instead of the tool for installing the rivets for the wing window seal, or if not, does the special tool do a good job of installing them? I've got the entire thing apart at the moment and it would be criminal to not change them out while I have the chance.

If I must, I'll buy the tool (~$100) because I want it done right. If I do, I'll post up and loan it out to anybody else thinking of changing theirs.

Thanks,

I used a regular rivit tool. I have a couple of different ones and one seems to fit better than the other. You may want to try to put a spacer just slightly larger than the mandrel provided the tool will grip it before you set the rivits( nuts, washers, anything solid that will take up space). This will give a little added reach. If all else fails, buy a cheap pop rivit gun, get out the grinder and make it fit.

Jeff,
I got one a while back but the 'domestic-round-to-its' have kept it unused. After the new gate is built and installed, I promise - I'll think I'll get around to maybe thinking about putting it on my list of thing to consider.

gothand- I'll be in need of that soon. I'm swaping out my frames and glass- all likely in about 1 1/2 months when I do my hinges and regulator maintenance. Let me know how it goes. I think you're in So Cal so I would totally rent it from you with a deposit! Anyhow, keep us up to date with the fix.

Evil, while a regular rivet gun may work in lieu of the factory rivets for the windwing seal, the small seal at the top of the windwing has the special chrome rivet that I'd like to use.

Although $100 seems silly to spend on the tool, I have spent so much money already on this car (and likely the 65/66 coupe and vert I hope to someday acquire) it would be asinine to chintz out now. I just didn't want to purchase it only to have somebody say "all you have to do is ..."

Shikoz (or anybody else), drop me a line when you are going to do yours. I'll feel even better about buying it if others can benefit from its use as well.

Thanks,
Jeff
