steering stuck need HELP now please
K, i have a 68 coupe with tilt column , no engine and no key to the ignition . I gotta move the car tonite into a gravel driveway . so a cherry picker or floor jack will not do it . How do i unlock the TILT steering column , or what can i do to steer the tires freehand from the outside of the car? I am not to familiar with steering linkage , but will try anything. Thanks , Bill
If it's not done yet there are four options I can think of:
1. Rip the lock out like a thief.
2. Disconnect the steering at the pitman arm.
3. Disconnect the rag joint on the steering shaft.
4 Use sheets of plywood and two floor jacks.
Good luck.

Thanks oxnard and Shikoz , My son 26 years young , got in the darn car yanked the SH&%@ out of it and it broke free , I dunno ??? maybe a little rust from sitting for 6 months ..... thanks for the input but she is now resting nicely in the side yard at the end of the gravel drive and will soon i hope, be getting new / used sheet metaland the freaking neighbors and local neat freaks as well as police can all sleep tonite .The car has been in my driveway and under a brand new 4 season cover bothering nobody but i get a 10 day notice to move it from public view .... because our local ordiance says " if it has no motor , it can not be in public view." I should be able to have what i want in my driveway ! Oh , and Shikoz , i don't know where you are , but here in Cali Central ,"The Yay Area" it is $60.00 Plus if they just drag your *** around the block and drop your car. Besides ... i got a tow truck down at the yard , it just needs a motor , ha ha ! Thanks again Guys for the response.
I am an animal lover , one of my 5 cats , the smarter one, in playing with the tie down string under the belly of the car... discovered he could untie it if he messed with it long enough. He now unties it and goes inside for shade and a nap on a hot day. He's going to be real upset that the doors are going on this weekend. Anyhow , a few times a month , i go out and find he has untied it and the wind lifts the cover. Do a search for the word " Suisun" pronounced " sue-soon " and you will discover it is one of the more consistent windy towns in Cali. That word is the Native American term for wind in this area. ( dunno what tribe or dialect) The next town over from me is Suisun City. Today 5 - 15 Knots predicted with 30 kts. gusts . Sufice it to say when the cover is untied it comesup and off occasionaly! Sorry about the long winded answer but as you can see , long on wind is what we are here. Regards , Bill
