Default C6 tranny

I just found a C-6 tranny out of a 5.0. I have a C-4 in my 65 289 coup. Is that a good tranny to up grade to? Looks like I could get it for a couple hundred out of craigs list. How hard would that be to upgrade? Looks like he has a 302 out of an old van too but I think I would like to stick to the 289 for now. Would my bell housing fit with that? Would like to get a little info before I call the guy up. Thank you.

Count the bell housing bolts on your 289. 302's have 6.

Upgrade wise, the C6 is a lot stronger, but it's also heavier and uses more of the engine's power. Unless you're looking to put together a stout 302, then stick with the C4.
