good 289 performance heads?
Hey yall this isn't for me but a friend who just bought a 67 mustang coupe (i think he joined this site too but hes at the beach and im at home with nothing to do so i figured id ask) with a 289 in it, (im in love), it needs a little work but he will be slowly doing a restomod on it, anyways I'm bored and was talking to him earlier about putting a new cam in but then i just read the biggest you can with stock springs is like 471/471 lift, and i figure hes gunna want more than that so i figure instead of just changing the springs for a cam to just get new heads with good springs and all and get some good power increases outta that (hopefully) and then just do a cam later since the stock cam isn't too awful bad i guess. I was just wondering what would be the best "bang for the buck heads", ive heard good things abut the GT40 heads and i saw a link in a thread where they were ike around $700 i think for a pair so that sounded good, just wondering what heads yall think would be good, also i'd like to hear any other ideas to get this some more power and to get this project started. Sorry for the long post just wanted to tell the whole story, and im sure you'll hear from my buddy on here soon enough, thanks guys!
edit: just found these, these look good, anyone use these? http://www.tristatecylinderhead.com/...products_id=40

GT-40's or GT-40p's? With the P head, you probably wont be able to use the headers on the car. And either head is designed for pedestal mount rocker arms. You'll either need to have them drilled and tapped for screw in studs or get a different length pushrod. You'll also need the pedestal mount rocker arms if you go that way.
You're also going to lose some compression with the later heads.

Well, for less than 600 bux, the GT40 heads are your best deal. The aftermarket aluminum heads like AFR's aremore than twice that much. http://www.brownbrosparts.com/product/61113/60525/But, yes most aftermarket aluminum heads are superior to the GT40 heads.
Im surprised he hasnt posted in here yet, but anyways maybe he would be better just waiting to buy aftermarkets then and for now just getting the cam he wants and i guess changing the springs to allow for a bigger cam?
Dart is making a few different cast iron heads now also. AFR 165 heads with a good cam(no not the biggest one you can find) and intake/carb combo and he'll be happy for a little while.
yeah i forgot to mention that, we were talking and he said he wants to put a new intake carb on, he mentioned edelbrock intake and holley car, maybe a RPM performer intake and 670 street demon carb? would that be good
