Why people modify Mustangs
Ford had intended for people to modify these cars. Modified hot rods had been around for decades before the Mustang was introduced.
That's why Ford offered so many different variations (drivetrains, trim levels, colors, etc.) for the Mustang back then for buyers to start with, and they still do today. It's more profitable for Ford.
And Ford offersmost (if not all) ofthe parts needed tomodify themin their aftermarket parts catalogs. It's more profitable for Ford. Check out this ad from the 60's:

They even hired Shelby to show people*how* to do it. Again, it's more profitable for Ford.
The Mustang (like any other car) is simply a product and Ford has maximized their profit by starting with a basic -- perhaps cheap -- car or product, and showing people how to hop them up, and then supplying the parts to do so. It's really ingenious marketing.

I fall between the two, i will add suspension and brake and safety mods but not do efi, what I am trying to achieve is a tasteful car. Of course that word tasteful is very subjective, especially give my current cars colour!!I amamazed what some people have done technically with there carsi.e. jamesW and thatturbo 67, supersnake and evil elenor to name a fewbut I would not want that for my own car as I have also respect for the moreorginal crowd as well, such as glen etc. I have no time for trailer queens with 200 miles on the clock or whatever as cars are meant to be driven end of, when it is a trailer queen it becomes an object not a car and for the amount of money they can go for I can buy nicer objects!!
