Exposed Gear Under Car
Well I noticed this exposed gear under my car today when I was going to change the transmission oil. It doesnt seem right for there to just be a opening right there, its a 1967 Mustang, it does not leak transmission oil though, is this normal?
I attached some pictures of the gear in question

its your flywheel
there should be a cover over it

I suggest you take a look through the FAQ section first and then post your questions in a seperate post to get a response!
Steve, you probably could get the part from a mustang vendor but you will pay way too much for it. its just an inspection plate. any yard would have one.

Mine's missing from my '67 as well. I blamed it on the previous owner when they converted it from an I6 to a V8. I just hadn't gotten to asking MF yet...thanks for doing so.
Its call an inspections plate. Mustang country? yes they should have it. Seems like you're in my neighborhood, I'm only like 10 minutes or so from mustang country. Where are you at?
You'll want one on there if you drive it regularly, it keeps road trash/junk from getting up inside the bellhousing and either cratching the flywheel/clutch disc or getting dirt all around the trans input shaft. You can also get dirt in the TOB. At the very least it keeps you from eating oily mud when you change clutches/torque converters
Ther on ebay all the time as well. By the way, whats up with that drain plug on the side of your oil pan. Looks like a disaster waiting to happen.Get a new oil pan, and while you are at it, changing the original worn out oil punpAND shaft is cheap insurance and a simple job. The oil pump is the heart of your engine, literally. Nothing but catastrophic failure if it goes. Ask me how I know?
