Rally Pac paint
As discussed in a thread earlier, the factory Rally Pacs matched the interior color and add-ons were usually black. Wanting mine to look 'original' and thinking it would look better, I took the plunge and painted my repop RP only a few hours removed from the box. Taking it apart, I was impressed with the quality of the unit. It felt as solid as the original one in my other Mustang.
Anyway, after disassembly, I carefully masked each part, shook up the can and held my breath.
I used the factory match color laquer made by Dupont availablefrom NPD in'65 blue. BTW, I am constantly impressed with the paints that NPD sells (didn't like that Rainbow stuff I got years ago from another place). I sprayed about 5 light coats without about 10 minutes between application.
It turned out great! The textured finish is still sharp and the color came out nice. Attached are a before and after pic. Unfortunately, the after pic was taken after it started getting dark so you'll have to take my word on it that it looks good.
Thanks to all with the encouragement to go for it!
Jeff

[edit] The flash also kind of obscured the second photo. The plate that says 'Rally Pac' is untouched, though the letters don't show in the pic and the seams on the housing are not as noticeable in person as they are in the pic due to the flash.

Patience revealed. Good job Jeff. Why did you get that style?

Actually, my fastback is a '65 non-GT with the Falcon style gauges. Maybe I goofed, but I thought this was the appropriate RP for that application? BTW, the tach says 'MUSTANG' not 'FORD'. [edit] According to 'Mustang Does It' byt Ray Miller, '64-1/2 Mustangs and those sold as service partshad the RP shown in my photo. Factory '65 Mustangs did not have the word 'Rally-Pac' across the front, all other things being the same. I guess if I wanted to change it, NPD sells the blank filler panel for $41.95. I'll likely keep it as is.
