Nah, if you butcher a classic, then you just do that. Butcher it. What else can be said?
Well said.

Actually quite a lot
It's said in Aviation circles, "A Mechanics signature is in his safety wiring". Meaning the details of his work, define his ability.
To me the same applies to a "Car guy". His car is a representation of his, imagination & mechanical ability.
This, while keeping in mind, allowances must be made for different tastes. For example; Project69's beautiful Mustang. Huge over size wheels, skinny li'll rubber band tires, hardly my style at all. But just because I wouldn’t build a car that way, doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate the time, thought, effort, sweat & dollars, that went into building the car, much less how well executed, it is. For my money, Project69 is ranking pretty high on all the scales. Despite, our differences in taste.
On the other side, of the "Mechanic’s signature" coin. If I’m at a car show & see a"plain Jane" 65 Mustang coupe, not really restored & not really modified, more you know, "I’m just makin it a better daily driver" kinda car. I see an owner, either with, no imagination, no display of mechanical skills & knowledge, no Chops, or some one who can’t afford to realize their dreams. What ever, a car, that’s just deadly
B O R E I N G, ….D U L L,….B L A H. I’m totally disinterested & walk away, looking for something worthy. Not the sort of owner, I’d waste any time listening to. Not that I’d tell the poor soul,…unless he asked for it!
Hey bottom line, I’d rather be grouped with the 16 year old, who has a Fart can muffler, a hacked up dash to house his mobile playstation, and a 1970Mach hood scoop, pop-riveted to his 66 hood, than a with dude with no Chops, or ability at all. I’d hope whoever looked at my car, could see some craftsmanship in it, Could see my "Mechanics Signature". That’s what I look for.
But, what about the Butchering???
Wait, even soaring, gave Project69 a thumbs up & N I C E ! Hummm, so not all modification is butchering????
May be butchering only applies to induction.. Double Pumpper- OK, Pro stock hood-OK, Blower-OK,………EFI-Abomination to start a Jihad. Only a Moron, could look at a car like JamesW’s and say, "This has been Butchered". If someone is so small minded, they can’t appreciate another’s efforts. So what? I’ve got Ford induction, on a Ford engine, in a Ford Mustang. And it’s MY car, MY money, & My time. Though I’m pleased if you enjoy my car, I didn’t build the car for you,...or your approval. I built the car for my enjoyment, and enjoy it I do.
Also; to my way of thinking; Once, you’ve changed anything at all, even using radial tires, or adding a hidden Pertronics ignition, you have begun modifying. Hence, the analogy of, asking a woman if she’ll go to bed with you for $1,000,000. If she says yes, then all you have to do is find out how little she’ll do it for. Because, she’s already established she’s a hooker. She’s got no right to dis another for hookin.

Butchering, Soaring?? I’ve seen James W’s car & I know mine, If your referring to our cars, you obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. Or do you always toss nonsense like that around. Or is it you just want a spirited discussion?
All I can say is "Show me some Tech!"

Mean while let me show you some "Tech",
Meet my blue car "Dolores"

1965 Mustang 2+2, EFI 5.0( mostly bone stock at this point), AODE/W(wide ratio geared, electronically controlled AOD+) Baumannator TCS, Northern 26" aluminum radiator, 2 ½" stainless steel Magnaflow "X"-pipe exhaust system, Unisteer R&P, 1" Arning drop, KYB gas-a-justs, Roller spring perches, Promotorsports GT progressive springs, Granada Discs w/ MustangSteve power assist, 3.25 Trac-loc diff, Intermittent wipers, GT/Pony interior, Mazda Leather Bucket seats w/3 point retractable seat belts, rear seat deleted, trunk mounted Optima battery, MPG Shock tower brace, Sub-frame connectors, Dual torque boxes. I can get 28+mpg cruising @65mph, and if a G-Tech is to be believed, turn a ¼ mile in the 13’s @101mph

Maybe it is a good thing you would just walk away. Most people would probably not care to hear what you say anyway. I would dare say that the "Poor souls" you just describe would be about 85-95% of the people on this site.

Well said Mr. Classic EFI. To each his own, and it's mods like you have done that get the gears in my mind turning. While I appreciate an authentic restoration, I equally appreciate a mod that accomplishes a goal - whatever goal that might be - especially when it was done by the owner as opposed to a custom shop and checkbook.

Please read what I was trying to say. If I see a guy who cant afford to realize his dreams, yet still has them, I'm always happy to give what advice or support I can. Though some one, who thinks a fully restored C code is the be all end all, we may or may not have much to say to one another.
As I said itmight depend on the quality of his work. Thats what I'd be looking for.

I am truly sorry to see Soaring get sacked as mod - having not been here very long, I appreciated and learned a lot from him. I hope he does not become a stranger. I like classic info as I do restomod/EFI stuff - it is all learning for me as with others.

Learning and helping people are the principal reasons why I follow this forum. There were reasons that many of us are not nor will ever be exposed to that led to Soaring's dismissal - I am not in charge so I must abide in the decision. Regardless, I learned much from him even when I did not agree with his views or condemnations of the restomodders. But that is the price you pay when you truly embrace diversity... the hardest aspect is embracing the diversity of opinion.

President Lincoln, arguably our greatest President, constructed his cabinet with those who had disparate view points - it kept his mind open and not closed to "group think" - a liability that is common to those who think alike and discount other viewpoints.

Keep up the EFI info - I learn from you guys and appreciate it.
Keep up the hard core classic info - I learn from you guys, too.

I don't understand why some folks get hung up on terms like "classic" or "restomod". To me, they are just BS terms that don't really mean a whole hell of alot in the real world. For me it's simple, any classic can either be "concourse" or not. If it's not concourse, it's still a classic that has non-original or upgraded parts added. I can appreciate both but would not slam either one. Just my $.02

I guess you haven't got much to say to a guy like me, who prefers to spend his money on ensuring his family is well looked after as opposed to spending every cent he has on his car. Yep, its a plane jane 66 coupe daily driver that gets updates about once a year when the tax return comes in, but it gets driven, and appreciated by me.
Is w^ankers like you that put people off getting into the hobby in the first place.
I've come accross plenty of people like you, especially at car shows, who are far more interested in what other people think of your ride and how good you are, than simply enjoying the hobby for what it is.
Thats fine, I respect the work thats gone into your car, but clearly you have different priorities to me and many of the guys here, and you have simply come across as an obnoxious arrogantfool, allbeit with a nice car.
