i went on the i-105 to get to mustang country store just fine with no problems.

 

I drove mine for about a week every day until i realized how low my oil pressure actually was..The steering was the only thing I worried about.. My brakes and suspension were good to go, except that the rear was on airshocks.. I do need new leafs and shocks back there, but It felt really good on the road,, I didnt go up past 85,, The steering kept me at bay being that I had about 3-4 inches of play in the wheel..

 

get it up on jackstands and do a good once over, looking for leaks and loose parts, and check your lug nuts.make absolutely sure your brakes are capable of stopping you at 60+ MPH, your following distance may be longer, but the last thing you want is to end up in a ditch or someones trunk. when i first pic'd my 66 up two yrs ago, it was nowhere near freeway worthy. now, slam through the gears, andsit back 70+ one fingering the steering, when no one is looking.

 

Mine is as tight as a fiddle string, and I drive 80 MPH on the freeway all the time. So, these old cars are just as capable as any modern car.

 

Mine has a little "bump steer" and my 3.55s and c4 don't like to go over 70, screams a bit, but thats what the AOD just recently got is for. Other than that it runs very cool and rides pretty smooth.

 

What's the condition of your radiator hoses? A soft hose to the suction side of the pump (lower hose) willstart to collapse as the revs increase and will pinch off the flow. Less flow = hotter.

Yes, Norm is right. There is a reason why Ford put a spring in the lower radiator hose. If yours doesn't have one, get one that does.

 

blueovalboy you need the baer tracker tie rod ends they remove bump steer. only thing to remember is you got 4 wheel drums they stop alot slower then disc leave more room then you think you need.

 

Well actually I upgraded the front to disc brakes, drilled/slotted rotors. Stops great. Thanks for the info though. Any idea on how much those run?

 

I mean, if you have ANY doubts as to the safety of your suspension, front or back, take it to a reputable shop and pay them to check it over for you.

Sure beats spinning it into oncoming traffic if something comes apart under there!
