Default AOD question

Will an AOD transmission from an 88 mark VII with a 302 h.o. work for the swap? Is this the same transmission that would be in an 86-92 mustang with a 302?
Thanks

Hereare a couple of sites with all the AOD info you'll want.
http://www.becontrols.com/
http://tccoa.com/articles/tranny/index.html#
http://www.network54.com/Forum/260730/
Several months ago, I pulled my AOD out & installed a 4R70W/AODE-W. Though it wasnt real cheap the wide ratio gear set really woke my car up. If you really want a great overdrive tranny, you should think about the AODE-W.The info on it is in the same places.. Feel free to contact me on the swap, after you've reda up on your choices.

Thanks for the links, it looks like i have a lot to read about. I don't think i want to invest as much as it would cost to put in a 4R70W, electronics sound like a lot of work.
If i understood the one article correctly, it was saying that all AOD transmissions from a 5.0 would be the same, is this correct? I guess i am not clear on whether or not this transmission would work or not.
Thanks

Just wondering, what swap are you referring to?

Are you interested in swapping it into a Fox ( 4-eyed fox 79-86, aero fox 87-93) or into a classic stang? As far as I understand, if the mark is pre-MN-12 body designation, it should be fine. They shared the FOX platform with the stangs.

If you want to swap it into a classic, you may have a little work to do to the tunnel or get an adaptive tranny mount. I've never swapped from a fox to a classic, so I wouldn't know.

I'll tell you what won't fit, the rear end from a 98 Mark VIII into a 66!!! Damn that sucked!

sorry, i will be putting it into a 69 with a 302
I have read that an AOD from a 86-93 mustang with a 302 will fit, i was wondering if one from a mark VII is the same.

I am in WI, are you interested in shipping?

It would probably be better to let it go locally, I wouldent want someone to be unhappy with the tranny, so far away I couldent stand bt it.
Those links should have all the info you need. If you'll just read through the Ford Transmission Forum it'll answer questions you never knew you had.

AOD fits fine. The c4 and c6 use the same flex plate and starter. The difference will be the length, you'll have to shorten the drive shaft and replace the cross over (NPD has them). The TV cable is a Lockar and simple to put on a carb setup, also from NPD.

Actually you dont have to shorten the DS. If your are using a C-4 yoke, have 1 5/8 in removed from its length. Or just use one from an AOD, though not one from an AODE/4R70W, as the tube diameter is too large. Best of all is use a T-5 Yoke, its splines go all the way up to the tube mouth,C-4 & AOD dont. The longer splines have more connectivity with the trans drive, and will take more punishment before failing.
