the only real difference externally would be the clutch z-bar threaded mountingbossthat won't be on a late-model block. There are aftermarket brackets available for this, however, so no big deal. Everything else is a bolt-on.

i have a 600cfm carb, it was a bit much for a basicly stock 289 but it was brand new 200miles ago so ill see how it runs on the 347, ill check on that griffin radiator, because my 289 always runs hot

this is what i was planning on doing

-rebuilding the c4 most definetly because it can barely handle the 289 now thats how bad it is
-i was going to put 3.55s in but i didnt know if there was a difference between a 8 inch and a 8.8 inch because i cant find gears for a 8 inch just 8.8
-im about upgrade to front disk brakes this winter, i cannot stand the drums
-the long block comes with edelbrock aluminum 60cc heads for an addition $300 i was going with that (other then that its world windsor jr 58cc heads) never heard of them, any good?
-i just upgraded to power steering and was going to buy a $250 suspension kit to help handling

its a hydraulic roller cam but i dont know the specs on it as of now, i know the springs can handle .500 lift as for the torque converter how much do they run

Jegs sells 8 in rear ring and pinion....I have a Holley 600CFM on mine now and its okay, I guess I have nothing else to compare it to so I can't tell you how much you lose...I'm wondering the same..

I received 3 Griffin radiators and the first two leaked out of the box...I'm not trying to dog Griffin cuz I've only heard great stuff and the car does run nice and cool. But if I had it to do over, I might not pay the Griffin price or at least would consider another...if the third Griffin at $600+ had leaked I would have just bought a three row copper/brass for half the price....good thing they took the Griffins back, but it was still quite a pain.

my77stang said that i could get a good head, a stroker kit, and machine work for 3k. would my 289 block be able to fit a 347 stroker kit?

Requires clearancing on the block. Not a big deal, your machine shop can do that at the same time they clean up everything else.

As far as overheating goes, you shouldn't have overheating issues as long as the cooling system works and your engine isn't bored over more than .040". I'm running a 3-row brass radiator with my 331 and it works just fine.

A 289 won't go safely to a 347, the skirts are shorter than a 302 block so get a 302 block. As far as the carb, a 600cfm will wokr ok, but will actually be a bit on the small side for a healthy 347. I'm running a 570 on my 302(which in reality is prolly more like a 600-625) and it's just right, so you should think about doing a 650-670 like was mentioned above. And the RPM Air Gap would be the best manifold choice, the runners are actually slightly enlarged over the standard RPM to make it work better with stroker applications. The rpm range is listed as 1,500-6,500 but that's for a 302, on a heavier breathing 347 it's be more like an idle-6,000 or idle-5,800 or so. A good hyd roller cam on a 347 with some good heads, RPM Air Gap, headers and exhaust with all the other goodies will easily put out 425+hp.

As far as exhaust, go with dual 2.5"

The 289 and 302 blocks are identical. The longer piston skirt is a myth, albiet a popular one. I've talked to several people who've actually mic'd them and discovered otherwise.

The problem with a 347 comes from the severe rod angle, not the increased stroke. The 347 has such a severe rod angle that it tends to wear out piston rings and cylinder walls prematurely. I'm not talking about 50k miles or anything, but you'd be much more likely to see a 175kmi 331 than a 347. This is why I built myself a nice 331

And yes, definitely go 2-1/2" pipes and full headers with a 347.Too big for a stock or mild 289, but your stroker will appreciate it.
