Simple Green is fantastic. Spray it, let it soak for a minute, then wash it off, and dry it. Don't just leave it though...

Cover the distributor and the carburetor.

Man...I need to do this too....

bag the distributor like they said but what i also did was kept my engine running so i know if something went wrong, its a good idea only becuase then you know it will run when you have to drive home and dont get stuck with an engine that wont start up, leave the air cleaner on and try to spray around it

I like Simple Green because it doesn't burn my eyes or lungs and is a great de-greaser.

What did your father tell you to use?

Edited for grammar.

Most commercial "degreasers" are little more than diluted diesel fuel. (If you disbelieve, smell it.. )
I haven't tried simple green, it sounds good though.

I have always found that powdered Tide mixed up strong in hot water works pretty damn good, and rinses well.

Whatever you use, you are going to need to scrape [:@]any thick gunk off first in order to really getthings clean.

Get the Simple Green Degreaser for automotive use. I think I got mine at the local hardware store. I used it to clean my engine and engine bay and it works great!

I use greased lightning from the auto store. You can use easy off oven cleaner too but it smells like crap. I am not a big fan of simple green. Used it in the Marines to clean vehicles and it sucked. That is when I found greased lighning,

I like the simple green. Use it on almost anything to clean. Only drawback is the smell.
