Default t5 to 347

i just had a long thread on here yesterday about my 347 stroker, i was see how much to rebuild my c4 and beef it up, but i thought why not try to see how much the t5 conversion would be. im guessing alot more but i just wuna check it out. i saw a kit for $300 but that looked a little low, so has anyone done this conversion to a 302 and can you let me know what i would be in for. would the bell housing of a fox body 302 fit my crate 302, what about the clutch pedal and assembly, im guess thing is going to cost alot more

One thing to consider, is the best T-5's were only rated to 330ft-lbs of torque, so if you plan on going for a lot of power then you might wanna get a beefier trans likea Tremec TKO series, but then you're talking over $1,500 for just the trans

moderndriveline has one rated to 450hp didnt say anything about torque tho. theres a few companys out there that sell kits or get you the tranny and have it rebuilt rest of the parts you can buy alone.

Yes, the Fox body bellhousing, up to '93, will fit but its for a cable clutch and the pivot is on the driver's side. So you will need to get the cable arrangement and hopefully your headers won't be a problem for the cable, or go hydraulic. However if you get a standard 4 speed bellhousing, whose pivot is on the driver's side, all you'll need is an adapter plate to go between the trans and bellhousing, plus you can use the standard equalizer bar arrangement. As mentioned, checked out Moderndriveline's site. Good education there.

I have done a TKO conversion, pretty easy once I was over the parts selection process.... We went all new with this conversion, clutch, safety bell housing, transmission, and cable, about $3,000 in total.

As mentioned above, I went to a Mustang Steve clutch cable as part of the conversion. It may be that the stock clutch linkage would work when using the conversion kit that you mentioned.

Yourdriveshaft will more than likely need to be shortened, and possibly a newend put on to match the yoke from the T-5,everything from the fox should work fine, except you will need the Mustang Steve cable conversion.

http://www.mustangsteve.com/cable.html

I used this kit, it works great.... Some welding required,,, it was about a 2 hr install in the 66... (cable kit)

On second thought, the flywheel may not work, depending on the balance of your 347. The 5.0s were 50 oz. external balance, the 347 could be different, the engine builder should be able to give you this info.... very important!!

I'd recommend against a T5 unless you get something like a GeForce T5. The problem is that the tailshafts are only rated at 330ft-lbs, so if you a fair amount of traction and plan on really laying into the throttle, you could very easily snap the tailshaft in half with your torquey stroker. This is the position I'm in with my 331. It's either a GeForce T5 ($2k) or a toploader for me. I don't feel like having to massage my tunnel to get a TKO to clear.

You can pick up a good rebuilt toploader for about $800 from David Kees that will be about as bullet proof as they come.

Personally, if I had a C4 already, I'd just get that rebuilt and be done with it.
