Why be so quick to replace it? I'd take it to someone who really knows carburetors.
The fact that it gets worse when the car warms up is inconsistant with a warped baseplate.
A warped baseplate should leak.
Stalling when you release the gas points to the dashpot. The throttle plates are closing too quickly. The dashpot holds them off slightly for a short time after the throttle is released.

What kind of carburetor is it?

Rebuild it. Kits are only 25-30 bucks and come with everything you need. Its not hard at all. Im only 19 and dont know alot about classic mustangs but it only took me two days to get the carb back in the car and adjusted.
