Cowl Repair
From what I have read, repairing a rusted, leaking cowl is a lot of time and work. I have heard of covering the cowl with a piece of metal (I reckon it is considered shaving?). That seems the easier way out; however, is that a problem with rain? I am hoping that this is an ok method of approaching it. Also, the quick plastic fix is ok(I currently use it), but I am rebuilding the car, so I want it to look good!!! I have no interest in keeping it original, so dont worry about that argument.

I just looked for some pics of when I did mine. They were done pre digital camera so who knows where they are. Found some others I was looking for though. Any way I went through and cut out sheet metal in the shape of the vent and held them in place with a magnet so they were flush and tack welded them. I dont know if its right or not but I didn't remove the old vents. I was trying to avoid any extra warping. After it was all welded and ground any excess weld I used a stud gun and welded studs to any low spots and pulled it relatively flush with a slide hammer.
So it is alright to do? Nothing bad will result in this method? It seems to me, to be the best way to go unless you wanted an original car. And I definitely dont car about originality.
My method of welding shut you shouldn't have any problems of water leaking through your heater. If your concerned about rust you could cut out one of the vents and do some rust repair or preventative maintnence before you welded it shut.
