Default Starting problems

OK ladies and gents, My stang will not start, ****, so I checked the battery and it was 13.5v but now I need to work out what has gone wrong so can anybody give me a check list so I can sort it out? There is no noise from the starter soI figure it could be the starter or the voltage regulator but need to test these. UnfortunatelyI can't get the starter testedat an auto-shop as they don't do that here any help would be much appreciated.

I bet it's the solenoid. Try replacing that first, it's a whole lot easier and cheaper too.

Try TESTING it first. Throwing money at problems is never a great solution.

Take a screwdriver (with an insulated handle) and jump the big battery-side solenoid terminal to the nearest small terminaland see what happens. No click = bad solenoid. Click and start = power not getting from the ignition switch to the solenoid. Click and no starter noise = bad starter or wiring to starter.

Paddy187. On the attached schematic, using the words provided by Starfury, jumper #1 is how you check for a defective ignition input. Jumper # 2 checks for a bad solenoid. If niether cause the engine to crank, check for good grounds battery to engine block, engine block to frame, a loose connection, and/or12 volts at the starter end of the cable.

A bad VR isn't going to keep the car from starting.
