I am getting ready to pull the engine (289) in my 67 mustang and I am wondering if anybody has any tips for tranporting it to the rebuilder. I have a truck and the rebuilder is in town but I would someone to give me some guidance in securing it in the truck bed.
In lieu of a tire, bolt a couple of 2x4's on to each side of the rear of the engine extending downward to meet the ground. This will keep it stable, hen tie it in 4 directions once on the truck.
I would take the engine apart... I hauled mine in back of SUV... in plastic bags..
I know this is tempting, but it is probably best to leave the engine together when it is being professionally rebuilt. Only because the rebuilder may want to observeit's condition and wear characteristics as the engine is coming apart. I know I pay particular attention to the teardownwhen I am rebuilding an engine.
This can give the rebuilder "clues" as to why the engine may have failed, or if the engine is experiencingany abnormal wear etc.
Most engine shops in themy areawill charge more to dear down engine... I had my 289 complety done with kit and all for less than $1100... Some assembly required...
