Default Headers - ceramic coat or not?

Hi guys
i am getting a custom set of tri-y headers made.

There's plenty of hype about ceramic coating but I am wondering if anyone has real evidence of whether its worth getting them done or just paint them?

appreciate your thoughts

I have a set of ceramic coated tri-ys on my 66 fastback. Ceramic coatings will keep the heat in the pipes. Ceramic is nice at that. I have had mine for three years, and about 12k miles (mostly highway in san diego, CA). It aint as hot as alice springs, but ya can toast an egg during summer.

They have held up real well. 20 years ago, I would have loved to have them, now that I have em, I would get rid of them, for anything.

Retain heat better, fight rust better, & they look a little cleaner. Do it.

Ceramic headers are the best thing since Sliced Bread. The Cat's Pajamas.

Even better yet, buy them already coated so you do not have to spend your money on the coating. You will save about $200 if you buy them done.

Since he's getting "custom" tri-y's, he wouldn't be able to "buy them already coated."

Just alittle food for thought, I heard that headers that are coated on theinside, aswell as the outside, are even more effective controlling the heat.

i dont suppose you have a link to such an article? I have only ever seen stuff by thems that wanna sell them to you, nothing independant.

Ed, the headers are being custom made - couldnt get ones big enough off the shelf, so will have to pay the extra. Its about $240Aus.

Hooker Super Comps...love em. Little tight though. One rub spot on passenger shock tower in my 66 coupe, and steering bumps slightly only if you turn wheel to the extreme.

We have ceramic coated on the 66, haven't had them long enough to give any real info on durability, but they look good!

But, it so happens that several years ago my uncle had put ceramic coated headers on his 360 equipped Ford P/u. They stilllook ok, but they are starting to rust some now, the rust almost looks like the pipes have acne, they are not generally rusty yet but they are "pimply"

So I would say that they will still rust, but slower...

I can't really say how long these headers were on for either, and I cant ask now, but I wouldguess about 5 years or so.
