I went to Akron Ohio and went to the Summit store and all I have to say is WOW. I wish there was one by where I lived. Question for you all. I saw a super charger there called a Paxton (if memory serves me right) that is bolted to the side of the block and has a box that engulfs the carb. Are these worth their money? How well do they work and how hard are they to tune since you cant get to your carb without some dissasembly? I like the looks of them. They give a nice clean look to a motor. I have been tossing around the idea of a blower just haven't made a decision one way or another.
The Paxton and Vortech are centrifugal type super chargers unlike the positive or roots type that everyone associates with a 6-71 type blower. The centrifugal are basically a turbo that is gear unstead of exhaust driven.
They work well and other than a little more work to get at teh carb as easy to tune as anything else.
I LOVE Summit. It is about an hour from home and 30 minutes from my office. I used to spend so much money there I got one of the jackets they were selling around their silver anniversary in the mail for free.....that was before I got married.

Summit has a great on-line catalog. It is possibly the easiest on-line shopping of any website I have ever used. I often use the website just to research what is available, and what fits, in he course of this research, I often just buy what I need.
The parts can be sorted this way, they can be sorted that way, during all of this "subtle differences" become aparant... and in all of this the site is very easy to navigate once a person gets used to it.
I buy lots of stuff from Summit, I should buy more from my local speed shop,,,, but since it is a Ford,, they usually have to order the parts in anyway....

The carb enclosure eliminates the necessity to o-ring the throttle shafts, but it makes it much harder to work on the carb. I had the enclosure but switched to the bonnet. Runs great either way.

what the hell is a "positive" type supercharger, the only -71 types i've heard of are roots(funnycars and dragsters use them) and screw type,the screw type were originally the detriot diesel's 71 series blowers and then people started retro-fitting them onto a regular gas motor, the diesels created so much compression that massive amounts of air had to be crammed in them to make em run and this is why a true "original" not aftermarket6-71 to a 10-71areunderdriven almost 40% were as a aftermarket is underdriven about 9%, it helps when your dad is the best dieselmechanic and your uncle is one of the best dragenginebuildersin alabama hehehehe, point to be made, my family knows a thing or 2 about motors, transmissions and cars
