How will you get more horses from a 6 w/o replacing with a V8
Let's say you had an early gen mustang with an I6. What mods would you do to the engine to squeeze more horses out of it. Without having to slot in a v8. I heard that the Aussies have loads of hop-ups for a 6 and even swear by sixes.
So what would you do to make a six an eight killer. Or a sleeper.
Imagine too that six came with an 8inch and a 3-speed. And imagine what you would do without changing the rest of the drivetrain.

First off rebuild motor possibly using the second step, second check out these sites...

I've also seen a centrifugal supercharger on a 200 I6.

I'd turbo it with the amount of exhaust that old shool 6cyl put out, and the amount of empty space in that motor bay. You'd have to make a bunch a custom parts, but I think it would be cool.

Check out the November 2007 edition of Hot Rod. There's an article on pg117 about a Maverick 200 I6 that the guy races.
Some more:
Back in the day, we used to do some neat stuff like three inline single barrel carbs, custom headers, and larger valves. The 200 has a non-removable intake, so you were working on the head and the intake. People would look for the 250 I-6 at that time because the intake bolted to the head.
That was ingenuity due to lack of upgrades. Today, I'd definitely look at that turbo setup.

The first thing I would do is swap in an 8" rear with 4.10 gears, it would not give you more horses, but it would make you think you have new horses..
The "drivability factor" will go way up with better gears...... I know, pre-engine swap we drove the 66 with 4.10 gears, what a kick!!

Mike's new aluminum OZ head - will cost you, but it will be worth it.

also in either mustangs and fords or pop. hotrodding there is a build up of a 68-69 mustang with a turbo charged 6, it is the first of three installments for it, might check it out to see what they are doing

i have an inline 6 in my 68 coupe that we rebuilt, as far as mods go we put in a clifford cam, 1.6 adjustable rocker arm assembly, got the block and the head shaved to boost compression, put on a clifford header with dual exhaust and flowmaster 40s out back, petronix ignitor II and their ignition coil, with new wires and plugs. Its no V8, but it sure as hell sounds like one and it is a lot of fun to drive. Plus we kept the stock carb so my gas mileage is still decent. modified inline 6s are pretty sweet I think, definitely go through with it, Im happy I did

It really depends ont he amount of power you want to get and the amount of money you have. Either way, start off with a good rebuild. Then, funds allowed, get the above-listed head, and turbo it. I plan on turboing my '66 inline within a few years. Does anyone know how strong the 3 spd is?
