soak it in some carb cleaner, and then get the straw for the carb cleaner and stick it in the jet and spray it.... I did it to my stang when the idle was rough and then sure enough it idle'n very smooth and nice.

A rebuild kit is probably only $25 and it only takes an hour or two to rebuild a carb. Carbs are not as scary as they seem, rebuilding is really straightforward replacement of wear-parts and making the proper adjustments.

How did you determine that gas was only coming out of one barrel? Are you referring to the accelerator nozzles squirting? It probably is clogged. You may be able to resolve the problem with carb cleaner as stated above, but as also stated above - a carb rebuild isn't terribly difficult. Your decision may depend on whether this is your daily driver (since you should soak the carb for at least a few hours if you rebuild).

But back to the backfire...it sounds like you have a timing issue not related to your carb. Oh, and the backfire may have blown your power valve. If so, plan on rebuilding the carb. (A replacement power valve is included in the $20 rebuild kit).

Good luck and let us know what you find.
