Default Help, my steering sux

How do you guys feel about upgrading your steering? I have manual in my 66and I am looking at the Flaming River Manual Rack and Pinion kit (~$900.00) and the Power assist kit is ~$1800.00. Are there any cheaper alternatives that can offer decent performance. I cannot afford $1000.00 for steering right now. [:@]

I wouldn't go with the flaming river stuff. I you wanna go that route, it isn't cheap but Randall's Rack is the best rack and pinion system that I've dealt with. It goes in nicely and works well with even shorty headers. I think they retail for about $1,600, but it is an incredibly well designed system.

A rebuild of your own box (http://www.stangerssite.com/)
New inner/outer tie rods
New roller Idler arm

You'll be amazed at the difference and for a lot less moola

I second the opnion by JamesW probably the best bet in your case. You can also upgrade to larger anti swaybars in 1" up front and 3/4" in the rear but im not sure how well that would work without being complemented with new shocks and tighter springs.

Get a rack and pinion setup. It makes a huge difference in the steering response. I have a unisteer setup and it works great. No slop at all or wandering. Why rebuild old technology !

Power steering pumps are horsepower thieves. And yeah, just maintenence your current steering setup, almost every time someone has a problem with it, it's not cuz it's old technology, it's cuz it's old and unmaintained.
