black smoke?

If the problem remains even though you are changing carbs, check your fuel pressure, especially if you are running a performance fuel pump, either mechanical or electric.

Excess fuel pressure will over-run your floats, and cause flooding and/or an overly rich condition....

Most carbs will do great on about 3.5 lbs.
