Default the cardinal sin

should i commit the cardinal sin. i just got a 67 mustang and am going to spend what money i have to fix it up but right now all i have in the mustang is a i6. and i don't think i could get much power from and inline 6.
now the question of the day is i also have a chevy 350 in an old truck i could rebuild and put in the mustang would you do it, now it is my dad's so he would probably let me put it in the mustang but would most likely not let me sell it.
i am pretty new to cars and fords especially and i want to make a nice ride with good power, nothing crazy but a good power.
would you put a chevy motor in a ford?

also i would probably have to change alot of stuff so would it even be worth it ?

Ford tough with Chevy stuff. Not for me, but then again when you are strapped for cash you have to do what you can.

personally i would never put a chevy engine in my mustang. i know that may be what fits your budget best but you are going to have a hard time finding anyone to buy your mustang down the road if you ever decide to sell. I have to imagine that there would be A LOT of work involved in getting your I6 Mustang ready to handle that 350. I just dont think its worth it.

If it was me, I would get the I6 into the best shape I could within reason in your budget, and sell it. Then buy a Mustang with a FORD V8. If you go the route you are discussing, I wish you luck but I think it would be a real nightmare in almost every aspect of the project.

Maybe other members here will tell you otherwise. I will be curious to see the response to this question. Take care.

Would the required work, fabrication, sweat & tears of doing this not be more than just buying a decent 289/302? Don't take me wrong, I own two Chevy's along with my Mustang - but it just seems like far too much work & time compared to a relatively inexpensive 289/302 swap.

I see you mentioned rebuilding the 350. If you are planning on doing a rebuild anyways I would find an old 302 to purchase and rebuild. Whether its a junk yard or private party, you can get one pretty cheap even if its a late 70's early 80's 302.

By the time you get everything you need to swap the Chevy in, like transmission, headers (will the exhaust manifolds work??, if not where would you find headers to fit?) transmission, driveline swap, custom engine mounts, etc. etc., you would be better off finding a Ford engine to rebuild, especially since you would need to rebuild the Chevy anyway. You can buy a Ford rebuilder enginecheap enough, like two to four hundred dollars.

You will need to swap a lot of parts to swap in a Ford engine, but more to do the chevy swap, and lots more fabrication from scratch.

If the body is in relativly great shape with little or no rust I would recomend a V-8 swap, if not it is probably not worth it.

NO WAY. too much work. i found my 302 block or 50 bucks. the guy also gave me a set of heads, crank, front aluminum cover, and a fan. ALL FOR 50 BUCKS!!!. now im creating it into a 331 stroker. it was kind of a risk because we didnt know if it was cracked or not. but luckily it wasnt so im set. just search for a block or old parts-engine. maybe try the junkyard. if you need money, go through your whole house and find crap to sell...lol thats what i do. i need some money right now so im trying to sell my xbox and guitar.

Ok so going from a I6 to a V8 (with just ford engines) will require allot of work in the suspension, and drive line (didn't the I6 engine cars have a smaller rear end then the 8"?) and probably the steering as well. and there is a link to that in the FAQ....
THEN to put Chevy engine in will require fab work in the motor mounts, clearance for the exhaust (like a 351w drop) and transmission mounting I am sure you could find an adapter to mount that up to your current trany which is most likely a C4 but then again that trany probably wouldn't hold up with the TQ a 350 would produce... so then you will need a new/different trany (probably the one out of your dads truck that is with the car) then you will need to change the drive shaft because it wont work.... so basically you will be rebuilding the whole car... did I mention all of this is going to cost $$$..... if anything go with a Ford engine because what you think you would save by using the engine you have will in the end cost you far more then you would expect.....
