C4 swap
This is going to sound a bit backwards to you guys here but bear with me. I am basically the mechanic for my brother-in-laws 1968 Mustang with a Toploader from a 1969 Fairlane (RUG-AJ big input big output). The car originally had a 289 with a c4 I would imagine. The car now has a mildly built 302 and the toploader of course.
Him and I are both tall and really are not able to comfortable operate and drive the manual transmission. My brother-in-law is now wanting to swap an automatic back in it. So here comes the question:
What would be needed to swap back to a C4. AND is anyone here interested in possibly working out some sort of trade (the toploader setup for an automatic setup).
We are located in WA so local swap would be prefered.
Thanks!

If you are going to do this swap, you should seriously consider an AOD instead of a C4. the cost of the tranny is a bit more but the savings in fuel will be significant.
You would need a proper bellhousing, spacer, flexplate and a torque converter for starters.

if it were my choice I would stay with the toploader and do seat mods to make more room. A built C4 will require the least amount of work seeing as it will basically just drop right back in. I agree that if going to an auto the AOD would be the best choice but time and money are limited because of my schedule to do the work and his resources to pay for parts (active duty Marine Corps reservist).
I understand that we will need a flexplate (with right teeth count for starter), torque converter, and depending on the transmission we might need a different yolk and driveshaft.
Also does anyone know if the clutch pedal can simply be removed from the pedal assembly or will it be necessary to drop the steering column? I guess I could get under the dash to figure that out but I do not have access to the car at this moment.
