68 Headlight question
Hi all,
I'm looking for information on how the headlight switch is supposed to work.
1- When I pull mine all the way. I get gauges lights + headlights + an additional light (different color) in the intrument panel
I first thought this is high beam and the additional light would be high beam indicator.
2- However if now I puch the switch back in to the next position. I still have gauges lights but the headlights and the additional instrument panel lights is now off.
3- Pushin in one more step, I no longer have gauges lights nor headlights. Just parking and taillights outside.
4- Then one more push is everything off.
Could someone tell me how this is supposed to work. I believe position 2- doesn't work as required, but I'd like confirmation.
Thanks
JC

I didn't change the switch myself and I'm not too sure about the history of the car. However, as far as I can tell this switch looks pretty old... To me this should be the original one.
I believe the behavor has always been the same since I have the car. I just didn't need the lights until a couple days ago.
Still not sure about the different positions of the switch though. If someone can tell me or post a copy of the user manual that would help
thanks
jc

im in the same boat on finding the wiring diagram for my 65....
However on re-reading your post I think you should only have 3 positions,
1- all on
2- gauges & parking lights
3- all off
But if I am wrong and it is a 4 positions then ....postions 2 and 3 are reversed.
I would pull the **** into pos 1 and then you indicated that maybe the high beam indicator is on, by pressing the high beam switch on the floor, does it turn off that additional light in the cluster

Thanks very much for your help. I didn't even know the **** on the floor was the high beam switch
. Actually everything works fine.
Still I 'feel' 4 positions on my switch. Maybe a little worn...
I have the wiring diagrams for 68. Could this help?
Thanks

the wiring diagram should explain it - should only be '3' positions -
1. all on
2. parking lights/gauge lights only
3. all off
if the dash light is blue, thats your high beam indicator. Yup, that floor switch under the washer pump pedal is your high beam switch.
