Instrument panel problems still?????
About a month ago I posted about my instrument panel problems, I've still not figured it out. I put white face gaugestickers in my 1965 fastback all gauges were working before I started. I had all of the wires marked soI would not cross anything. After installing the stickers my gauges will not work. (temp and fuel) I replaced the voltage limiter and still nothing. I have power on both sides of the voltage limiter, but no movement on gauges, after a few seconds the voltage limiter gets hot and I only have power going into it, nothing coming out. I did notice that the double sided tape that I used to stick the faces on with was too thick, the needles were rubbing the face. I've since taking the tape off but still have the same problem. I've burnt up several voltage limiters and have taken it to a mechanic who burnt up two himself, we can't figure it out. Would it have been possible that I messed up the gauges by having the needles drag and now this is causing too much load which is burning up the voltage limiter? I'm not very good with a voltmeter so I'm not sure how to tell if the gauges are good or not. Any help would be appreciated.
Is your engine grounded to the body? I had problems with my gauge fluctuating and I ran a wire from my carb base to my windshield wiper motor and the gauges started working properly. This may not be your problem, but it is a cheap easy thing to try. Good luck, I hope it helps.
The gauges were working before I put the white faces on them, so all of the proper grounds should be there. The only other thing that changed was I put a new bezal on it. I don't think that would affect anything??
Do the needles move freely now? I can't imagine why a stuck needle would burn up a voltage regulator though. I figure it is either a bad ground or something is grounded that shouldn't be.
Is your oil gage working?
edit..sorry..I was thinking 66...
Are your instrument panel lamps working? do they come on when you pull out the switch?

If you are overheating and destroying the voltage limiters, you for sure have a short to ground somewhere in the guage circuits.... be it a defective guage, misplaced connection, or just an old fashioned short is hard to say.
Start by disconnecting the guages that do not work and check operation of the ones that do work while checking for an overheat condition of the limiter. briefly hook up one of the malfunctioning guages, check for operation, if it does not work quickly disconnect it and hook up the other malfunctioning guage and follow the same procedure. hopefully, one of these two guages will function, and at this point you will have a better idea of where to look for the issue.
IDK if the individual guages are removable from the panel,, but if so, you might try buying the cheaper of the two broken guages to see if this might fix the issue, (with the other known defective guage unhooked), if so, it might be prudent to buy the other guage.
IDK,,, if I was there I could probably figure it out,,,, but it is hard to explain just what to do...
