Mustang Horror Stories for Halloween
A little oil leak.
I have put my car in the shop 5 times to take care of the problem and I still have a leak! Oh well, I hope the sixth visit will be the charm.
Anyway, I got to thinking about other people's Mustanghorror stories- I really like to hear about them so my problem doesn't seem to bad.
Anyone car to share their Mustang nightmare stories?

Engines leak. It may be so slow you don't notice it, but ALL engines leak something from somewhere. And they all burn oil too. And the harder you drive the more you can expect it to leak/burn. Granted, it shouldn't be horrific and cause problems, but expect a few drops every now and then at the very least
I have a very slow leak in the RF tire. Only looses about 1/2 a pound a day. So far I've not been able to find with the ole soap and sponge way. I guess its time to take it off and put it in the tub. Also the oil leaks drive me crazy. This summer Ijust haven't had the time to run the cars as I should. Good thing is, I now have my lift installed and fixing these problems will be easier.
I let my 17 yr old daughter drive mine last summer to work. She's the one that named the car Victoria, because the car would "act up" and she needed something to call it besides "c'mon car."
When I finally got her a car to drive, Victoria came back with:
Blown drivers front tire, she hit the curb
Power steering line totally blown.
A dent in the front valance
A hole in the radiator
Now you guys know why she helps me as noted in the new build thread. I made her fix everything while I supervised...and she liked it.

I was swapping the jets on my Holley carb... didn't get the transfer tube seated properly. Bad. I was taking it for a test drive, and noticed smoke coming outa the cowling. Pulled over and lifted the hood, and flames leaped out everywhere. It burned on the side of the road for a good 5 or 10 minutes. Killed my wiring, destroyed the paint on my hood, got back behind the firewall and killed my heater core, and destroyed everything under the hood. I spent about 3 months rebuilding the front of my car, interior, installing the Painless wiring kit, and swapping to a 408...
I bought myself a 65 fastback as a college graduation gift. It was a nice driver with no rust but it needed a little freshen up. I hired a guy with a good reputation and a member of the local mustang club to help me with it. When I got it back, the oil light was on. He kept it for another week. I picked it up, the oil light was off and the car looked great with new paint job. I drove it to work where it was parked in the sun all day. When I came out the paint had come off in big chunks. So I did my research and took it to another restoration shop. The first guy had put used parts in the engine and had so little oil compression that it didn't register on the guages,he had unplugged the oil light. So,I left it for the engine to be rebuilt again and for painting again. When I returned, the shopwas closed down and my car was gone. It took me five years to find the shop owner and my car. The car was in a field with only primer on the body, the windows down, the trunk open and the original hood and engine had been sold. There were rats living inside my car. I sat in the middle of the field in disbelief and cried for 2 hours. So now, I'm starting over. The car has been totally disassembled, dipped in acid, new body panel(quarters, cowl, floorpans) welded in and dipped in e-coat(primer/rust inhibitator). The estimate for restoration has doubled since this project began but at least it appears progress is being made at last. I will post pics as progress is being made so you guys can help me not to get cheated again. Thanks,
Candy

Sounds minor compared to some of your stories ... and, well, it's just a car horror story, not really the Mustang story ...
Bought the car and the seller gave me a $500 discount for a new Flowmaster dual exhaust system, saying his had to be replaced. During a test drive it would bang under the car when we hit a bump.
Took it to a muffler shop and spent $160 for the new piece of tailpipe they said had to be welded in as they said I didn't need a new system. Told me this would fix the banging noise I heard. A week later a friend was under the car after it hit a bad bump and he noticed an exhaust leak the muffler shop had missed. Meanwhile, it kept banging. Loudly.
Took it back and complained and they charged me just $60 last week and said my parking brake cable was banging against the exhaust. They put tubing around it to muffle the sound.
Drove it this week and while the parking cable (which was not in the right place thanks to the last owner) did make a tiny noise, it still kept banging badly at every bump/pothole. The mufflers were also scraping the ground going into the garage and up the incline.
I lost patience with it on Friday and went in. You do not want to see one pissed-off redhead! I began to tell him (the service manager who had worked on it previously) that it was still banging and he went on to begin to tell me it was the parking brake cable. I cut him off mid-sentence ...
"I am tired of taking it up the a$$ and not enjoying it. (2 male customers there began laughing). Don't you dare tell me it's a small cable when I can feel the entire exhaust banging up my a$$. You're going to go on a test drive with me so you can see it's not a little plink but a large bang."
He attempted to say no but I insisted, so he agreed to take it for a test drive. Came back 5 minutes later and put it right on the lift. I pounced on him and he admitted that he needed that test drive as not only did he hear it, he could feel it and yes, it was very bad and no, it wasn't a cable.
Showed me the problem (wrong exhaust for the car) and will fix it up tomorrow supposedly with new stainless steel piping that's the right length, so the mufflers are in the right place and will have no space to bang around. He showed me the scraping on the mufflers, areas where it had been rubbing, and all the minor cracks from it banging the underside of my car.
So, this will either end tomorrow or the horror may continue.
When I go to pick it up I'm not only going to have them put it on the lift so I can see what they did and take pics, I'm going to take it for a test drive BEFORE I pay for it.
(And yes, I did tell them I'd rather just buy a new Flowmaster system instead of fixing what I had but they said other than being the wrong size and in the wrong place, mine was fine)
