Thanks for extra info...so it was a vinyl that covered that bare metal, I did not know that...but the custom undercarpet did the job, it looks good now.

mustdoc and others, if you order 64 1/2 carpet from a catalog do you know if the vinyl strips are usually included? I'm starting to think I might need 64 1/2. I talked to a friend whoused to owna convertible built a few months after mine and he seems to remember having to buy 64 1/2 parts for everything.

I went ahead and did some rough measurements (I mean rough) from the floor up to the door sills (rockers I think?)I measured around the area of where the door and kick panels meet, and again where the seats rise. I came up with a little over 4 inches in both places...maybe 4 1/4 or so. It looks to me that for the 65 carpet to fit my car the floors would have to be about 2 inches higher.....which seems strange.

Can anyone with a convertible make some quick measurements?
btw...I'm not really sure what the difference is between convertible & coupe carpet, but since the catalogs stock both, I guess measurements for a coupe won't help me.

Thanks! Mike

As far as I know, no vinyl available.

Like I said, your best bet is to undercarpet that thing, it does look good.

You learn something everyday. I figured a 65 would fit either. After all I installed my 65 carpet about 3 weeks ago and had to cut about 3 inches off each side near the door sill. (Fastback)

65StangFB - that's crazy isn't it? You had to trim about 3 inches off....and my carpet is short 2-3 inches!

It is, but I wonder if it is manufacturer. I did my rear seat last night and the seat kit for the fastback were large pieces (Almost like a universal kit) because I cut of about 2 inches on each side of the long sides and about 8 inches off the end.

I still cant believe your carpet is short. I hope ot works out for you. Here is a copy below taken from the NPD catalog. It looks like they have the vinyl seperate.
1964 1/2 Carpet
This is the correct 64 1/2 style carpeting which does
not cover the sides of the rocker panel to the step plates
(Coupe only) and has the heel pad but no toe pad as
original. See vinyl yardage on page 13 to cover rockers.
