347
Hey guys, I'm looking to put a 347 stroker in my 66 GT. The problem is, that the engine with my supercharger will make about 600 ponies. The engine builder says that I can't run that much power on a cast block. Anybody have a setup like this? so I can decide if I have to get a forged block or not. He can build it with a forged block, but it's gonna be like $2000.00 extra and I don't got the cash. Please help
There is a misunderstanding somewhere there,,, all blocks are cast, some are just better than others.
He is probably recommending an aftermarket block, (Dart, etc.), from everything I have heard he is right, I don't think any production blocks will reliably take 600 HP.

im building a 331 stroker from my cast 302 block. our shop pushed out 425 hp outta a 331 a while ago. the 331's tend to make more power than the 347 cause of the stroke length. i was debating whetther to s/c it too but im hardly gonna be able to keep traction with 425 hp as it is, let alone adding another 120-130 with the s/c. is it a street driver or is it a track/drag car? if its for the street i would suggest ditching the supercharger and running straight motor, itll be plenty fast as it is. if you want 600hp, then i would get a big(ger) block. 351cleveland stroked to the 400's?
Why not forget the supercharger and go with 400+ HP. You don't want to ruin that real GT anyway. Here is a link to Dart blocks for sale.

+1 valley firearms, ive got a gt and im not gonna get rid of it cause theyre started to get more rare. classic stangs are just gonna go up in price (almost daily) so if you, ry1329, plan on selling it someday, then i wouldnt be trying to push 600 hp outta that classic. i tried soing the same but my dad keeps reminding me that its just an old classic and if i want a fast car, then i need to find a newer stang with saftety features on it, thats why im saving my money for a 97 gt or cobra.
I have a feeling your block would not last long over 500 ponies. Of course there is one way to find out.... but it will cost you a fortune. I would go with the Dart block if you must use the supercharger.
What engine have you had that S/C on til now?

I have a SVO R302 stroked to 331 with all forged internals and a Vortech. The "old numbers" were 527 rwhp, so figure north of 600 at the crank. No problem with the R block holding the power. In fact, my tuner has the same motor (with turbos) that is laying down 1800 HP and the block is not the weak link. I am changing my EFI setup to programmable EFI from Big Stuff 3 and of course bigger injectors (70#). This will allow us to precisely meter more fuel and more air for EACH cylinder independently of one another, control boost, etc as it does away with the MAF on my setup now. The early 5.0 Ford EFI is about as primitive as it gets. I expect the new numbers to be in excess of 700. It goes on the dyno in a couple of weeks. Hope it holds together....
