Default EDELBROCK CARB QUESTION

While I was tinkering with my car to see what might be causing my surging problem,I was looking down the carb itself. When I rev'd it up, the gas was coming out in large drops?? Is it supposed tobe drops or a spray??

Thanks

Do you mean when you accelerate to a high rev, or holding a high rev? If its during acceleration, you're likely seeing fuel coming from the accelerator pumps. I wouldn't exactly describe this process as big drops, but more of a spray/stream (think squirt gun). Perhaps those are clogged and causing drops to form. Are the "drops" bogging down your engine?

Someone else may have more detailed information. By the way, is the a Performer you're talking about?

It's after I run her up to 1500 rpm, and hold it there. It will then bump up to a higher rpm for a second or two and then back to where it started. The "where" is while looking straight down the carb, there are two, what must be inlets for the gas. And yes, when I accelerate is when the gas comes out in "drops", and as the drops make it down the intake it seems to affect the runnning rpm's. I thouhgt it shuld be more like a squirt gun stream rather than the drops, but do I have to disassemble the carb to clean those??

Try it with the car turned off. Give the throttle linkage a quick jerk and see what happens. If it comes out in a spray, you're good.If you still get drops, I'd run a can of Techron or GM fuel system cleaner through a 1/2 full tank, see if that helps. If not, then yeah, take the carb apart and spray carb cleaner through everything. Probably just a little bit of gummy buildup in the nozzles.

off idle thereare usually some drops of fuel that dribble out of othe venturis. You should see a pronounced jet of fuel come out of the accel pump discharge nozzles.

Yeah, the pump nozzles should have steady streams coming out of them when you crack the throttle open

Just got a rebuild kit for mine and hopefully I get to actually install itsoon cause my idle ports are leaking by causing me too rich especially at start up.

I will check for a "spray" when I open it up a bit tomorrow and let you know.
