Default carbs?

I have a 70 Mustang coupe with 302 2v engine whichI got for free a few weeks ago. It has what looks like a 4 brl carb but has only 2 brl's! Did Ford use 4 brl intake manifolds and put 2 brl carbs on them? I am totally new to the Ford world and was hoping someone knew without me having to take the carb off and looking myself. Thanks.

Maybe the PO put a 2 bbl adapter onto a 4 bbl manifold.

I know the carb was replaced cause it has a sticker on it says reman 1991 but car has 83,000 original miles and has not been modified as far as I know. I got it from the owners who have had it since 1979. I just never seen a 2 brl carb that is exactly like a 4brl carb but no secondaries. I am used to GM's so this is something I never seen before.

Holley makes a 2v that is 1/2 a 4v. The Ford/Autolite piece is different.

I know a 2brl is half of a 4 brl but usually there isnt a 4brl sized carb with only 2 brl'sso I thought maybe Ford used 4 brl intakes on v-8 cars and put 2 brl carbs on that look like 4 brl's with blank secondaries.I just dont know with GM's I've dealt with a 2 brl is a different looking carb than a 4 brl.I guess I better take the carb off and check it out. I was hoping someone knew so I wouldnt have to go through the trouble.

I think free70coupe is talking about the fact that the motorcraft 2bbl uses the same air cleaner as a 4bbl. The GM 2bbl is smaller on the top than a 4bbl, to use a 4bbl air cleaner you need an adapter to bring it out to 5 1/4".

You don't need to remove it. It is a 2bbl.

Autolite's 2100 2V carb is essentially half of a 4100 4V carb, and yes, the air cleaner mounting surface is the same diameter.

No, ford did not use 2bbl on 4bbl manifolds.

Great! Thanks for all the responses. Now is it worth getting a 4brl intake and 4brl carb? For the money is the increase in horsepower worth the cost? Engine has low miles so I dont want to do an entire rebuild maybe just simple bolt on improvements?
