Hi Everyone,
I have just moved to the US for work and have always loved classic mustangs. I have a 64.5 Coupe back home and today purchased my dream car - a 66 vert. My query is related to the best fuel to use for a standard 2V 289. Back home I use premium unleaded with a special lead replacement additive. Is that a requirement over here too?
Thanks in advance and Im really enjoying the boards.
Grant
If you have the unhardened valve seats a lead additive certainly won't hurt, especially in California where there are a crapload of additives in the fuel that are just that much harder on engine parts
Have the heads rebuilt and install hardened valve seats so you can burn unleaded without worrying.
In the mean time 92-93 octane (Premium) should be fine.
